Daylight saving time 2026 and 2027: start and end dates

How daylight saving time works

In spring, clocks move forward one hour, so evenings get an extra hour of daylight. In autumn they move back again. North America changes on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November. The European Union changes on the last Sunday in March and the last Sunday in October, at the same moment in every EU country. In the southern hemisphere the seasons are reversed: Australia, New Zealand and Chile move their clocks forward around October and back around April.

Because these dates differ, the time difference between two cities can change for a few weeks each year. New York and London, for example, are usually five hours apart but only four for about a week in March and a week in October or November. Most of the world, including China, India, Japan and almost all of Africa, does not use daylight saving time at all.
